Senior Scientist with the South African Sugarcane Research Institute

Senior scientist with the South African Sugarcane Research Institute, where he was the technical manager of the Fertiliser Advisory Service and carried out research relating to the optimization of soil health and the nutrient requirements of sugarcane. Under his guidance, the Fertiliser Advisory Service was completely overhauled, with updated laboratory methodologies and improved recommendations packages being introduced.

1979 – 2007

Research Scientist and Research Manager

In the employ of the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Agriculture as a research scientist and research manager. Neil carried out leading research into the nutrition and management of intensive pasture systems. He also played a major role in the development of the Cedara Fertilizer Advisory Service.

1978 – 1979

Pollution Control Officer

Pollution Control Officer for the Premier Diamond Mining Company at Cullinan. Research conducted into the revegetation of alkaline diamond mine dumps.
